Sound On Sound Festival Announces Lineup Changes, Big Freedia And Deerhunter Added To Lineup
Sound On Sound Fest is a brand new festival that will feature 75+ music acts, comedy performances, panel sessions, on-site camping, and more for three-days in the heart of Central Texas at the Sherwood Forest Faire, a 23-acre renaissance village just east of Austin, Texas. The 2016 Festival runs November 4-6 and includes headliners Phantogram, Beach House, and Explosions In The Sky. Also billed on the lineup are a wide variety of indie, hip hop, and EDM acts. Run The Jewels, Descendants, Death Grips, Purity Ring, Big Boi, Courtney Barnett, and Young Thug are all set to take the stage come November 4th.
The festival also announced a Globe Stage which will be home to comedy acts, artist Q and A sessions, podcast tapings, panels, and even air sex competitions. The Globe Stage comedy features a stellar lineup of comedy performances from Tim Heidecker, Joe Mande, Todd Barry, Johnny Pemberton, Ever Mainard, The New Movement Theater, Altercation Punk Comedy Hour, Fragile Rock, Laugh, Dammit!, and Greetings, From Queer Mountain. Additional comedy performances will be announced closer to the festival.
Two members of Pussy Riot, Maria Alyokhina and Alexandra Lukyanova (a.k.a. Sasha Bogino), will take the Globe Stage on Sunday, November 6 to screen a special extended trailer of the upcoming documentary Act and Punishment by Yevgeny Mitt, which is the full story of Pussy Riot with parallels from Russian tsarist history. After the screening, they will speak about their artistic and human rights work, followed by a Q and A. Additional live interviews, panels, and performances include a panel about the New York hardcore scene with author NYHC: New York Hardcore 1980–1990, artist Anthony Lister will be painting live presented by Volcom, and the stage will host a performance by emoji artist and musician Yung Jake.
The festival recently updated their lineup as Charles Bradley and Mac Demarco are both unable to play the festival. Big Freedia will replace Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires on the SOS Fest lineup, as Bradley recently announced the cancelation of the remainder of his 2016 tour due to health issues. Mac Demarco will be replaced by Deerhunter.
Sound On Sound Fest has also partnered with creative modern lifestyle brand Volcom to host the SOS Fest Will Call Station pick-up and programming at the newly-created Volcom Garden at 1209 E. 6th Street, Austin, Texas 78702. The space will feature an art gallery, live music events, a skate ramp, and an innovative retail experience. SOS Fest pass holders may pick up their festival day or weekend passes at the Volcom Garden daily from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning October 28 until Wednesday, November 2.
Three-day GA tickets are on sale now at soundonsoundfest.com for $169 plus tax and fees. Additionally, three-day VIP Treat Thy Self passes are also available for purchase for $445 plus tax and fees. Single day GA passes are $85 plus tax and fees, and weekend camping passes are available for $75 plus tax and fees. Festival attendees are invited to ride the festival shuttle from Mohawk Austin (912 Red River) provided by Austin Tour Company to the grounds for $10 for a weekend pass.
